Today Mr. Schick said we had finished the powerpoint so Mr. Schick read some of his reviews on surveymonkey.com. After that we watched a video about a guy would pretend to cry and then his baby would do the same thing. Then we picked a project idea out of a hat. My group picked out Athenian Art and Architecture. My group includes me, Kyle Wedemeyer, and Avery Dinger.

Today we continued to take notes on Ancient Greece. After we review Greece's geography we went over the different people that lived there. The first to live there were the Mycenaeans. Mycenae is located on a rocky ridge and is protected by a 20 foot thick wall. They dominated Greece from 1600-1200 BCE. After the Mycenaeans were the "sea people" or the Dorians. They came in and burnt down everyones palaces and just lived in war-torn Greece. Once they took over writing disappeared and storytelling was the only way of keeping track of past history. That was when Homer the Storyteller came into play. He was the one who created the story of the Odyssey and the Iliad.

All great civilizations rely on rivers because they give water to drink, water to irrigate, water to bathe in, and they make transportation easier and faster. Greece is located in mountains and hills and it is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea. Being surrounded by mountains meant that enemies would have a harder time sneaking up on them and attacking them. Also, being surrounded by the Mediterranen Sea made it ideal because they could easily transport goods to and from their ports. The Ancient Greeks had many religious sanctuaries for many different gods. The bodies of water that surround Greece are the Ionian Sea, Mediterranean Sea, and the Aegean Sea. The large island to the Southeast is Sicily. Both Athens and Sparta are located on the shore of the Mediterranean.
